Aya's Shoyo-Jurin, an Evergreen Oak forest, should be a World Heritage site!
Our Earth was covered with marvelous natural environments.
To our regret, the environment is being destroyed recently. One of these precious treasures is the forest, but it is decreasing day by day.
Forests in Japan can be categorized in two. Deciduous beech forests in the eastern areas and evergreen oak forests in the western areas. The beech forest in the Shirakami mountains represents the eastern Japan forests, and has already been accepted as a World Heritage Site. Although the "Aya's Shoyo-Jurin" has been acknowledged as the representative of the western Japanese forests, it has not yet been approved as a World Heritage Site.
Of the evergreen oak forests around the world, the ones in Japan are located at the northernmost area. The "Aya's Shoyo-Jurin" covers the most large area in Japan, and its elaborate forest ecosystem and beautiful landscape are incomparable. Also, cultures fostered in these evergreen oak forests are the origin of Japanese cultures.
In order to preserve the lively and refreshing "Aya's Shoyo-Jurin" for ever, we regard it is best to apply for a World Heritage Site. We would appreciate your assent.
